-         SEPTEMBER RECAP, September was extremely busy with 3 wine festivals, a charity benefit, and some large group visits to the winery. We met a lot of new friends at the wine festivals and we hope to see all of you at the winery soon!  
 
- Exciting Announcement!  We will soon be opening our 2nd Tasting Room & Wine Store at the Newberry Commons Mall in Etters just off the Yocumtown exit of I-83. Our new store will be right next to the Wine & Spirits Shoppe (State Store), so we hope that when customers are shopping for wine, they will stop in to the new store for Free Tastings of all of our wines. 
 
We are waiting on final approvals from the LCB, but we expect to be open within the next few weeks. For October, the hours will be Wednesday thru Saturday from 3pm to 8pm, but hours will likely expand during the Holidays. Since the space is very large, we also expect to do some music and other events at the store, and we have space to hold Holiday banquets and private parties, so call us to book your party. Once we have final approvals from LCB, we will announce the store opening on our Facebook page, so if you have not already "liked" us on Facebook, make sure you do to get all the latest winery news.
 
- To coincide with our Cancer Society charity event, we are having a Pumpkin Decorating contest during October. Just decorate (paint, carve, etc.) a pumpkin and bring it to the winery during the first 2 weekends of October (Oct. 5,6,7, & 12,13,14). Winery customers will then vote for their favorite Pumpkin for 50 cents a vote during October. The winner will get a $25 gift certificate to Hummingbird Ridge Winery and all proceeds from the voting will go to the American Cancer Society. So be creative and bring a pumpkin in (must be over 21 years of age to enter because of adult prize).

Oct. 5th, First Friday Happy Hour at the winery with extended hours until 7pm, with music on the wine deck by “Will Work for Wine” from 4pm to 7pm
 
Oct. 6th, Johnny Cash Tribute at the Winery, 1pm to 4pm, Music by "Rock Island Line", Free Admission, Free parking, Free Tastings. Bring your lawn chair, sip wine, and Enjoy the Music!

- October Wine Lineup: We are a microwinery and we make our wines in small batches so that we can focus on every detail of the winemaking process to craft the best wines for you. -   We had a Fabulous Month in July and we Thank all of you who stopped in to see us and all those who came out to our Beatles Music Tribute with music by "The Day Trippers"! A Fab time was had by all, including visitors from New Zealand dancing to The Beatles music.  

-   Our "First Fridays" Summer Wine & Music Series continues on Friday, August 3rd (weather permitting). Come on out and enjoy Live music on the Wine Deck by "Will Play for Wine" from 5pm to 8pm.

-   Calling all Central PA Arts & Crafts Enthusiasts: Come on out to the Winery on Saturday, August 18th for our Arts & Crafts Festival, with local artists and vendors showcasing their wares. Free Admission. Free Parking. Free Wine Tastings.

-  If you missed the news, Ruby is Back! Come and Get it. Ruby Elixir, our best-selling sweet red wine is back on the shelves. And Blue Diamond, our unique Blush Port wine is better than ever and now available for all of you Port fans! Come in and taste the latest vintage of these 2 wines.

-  Only 6 weeks until Festival Time!!!   Visit www.pa-wine-chili-blues.com for info on The Newberrytown Wine, Chili, and Blues Festival to be held at Newberrytown Peddlers Market on September 15th from 11am to 4pm. 

This Festival will feature wine tastings from PA wineries, a chili cookoff judged by festival attendees, and some great Blues music, featuring the Queen of Blues Harmonica, Octavia and her band. And Hummingbird Ridge Winery will be there too! For tickets and info, visit www.pa-wine-chili-blues.com

The Festival is looking for Restaurants or Individuals who would like to show off their chili recipe to be judged by festival attendees. 2 Categories for the Chili Cookoff: Restaurant & Individual with Prizes. Entry Fee: $20 for Restaurant Space (includes 3 winetasting passes, $60 value); $10 for Individual Space (includes 2 winetasting passes, $40 value). Space is Limited. Reserve your Space early. -   We had a Fun Month in June and we Thank all of you who stopped in to see us and all those who came out to our 60's Music Tribute with music by "The Happy Hippies"! A groovy time was had by all, with lots of White Sangria and Pordeblanco Margaritas being enjoyed.  
 
-   Our "First Fridays" Summer Wine & Music Series continues on Friday, July 6th (weather permitting). Come on out and enjoy Live music on the Wine Deck by "Will Play for Wine" from 5pm to 8pm.
 
-   Calling all Central PA Beatles Fans: Our Tribute to The Beatles is on Saturday, July 21st at the winery from 1pm to 4pm, featuring “The Day Trippers”. Free Admission. Free Parking. Bring your lawn chairs and Enjoy an afternoon of Beatles Music at Hummingbird Ridge!

- Recipe of the Month: This month's recipe was submitted to us by Stacy Force, a fan of our Semi-Dry Riesling. This is a great summer grilling recipe.

Ingredients:

For the rub

For the shrimp

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (give or take)
  • 2 lbs medium shrimp, peeled and deveined (U-25s ( I buy them peeled and deveined)

Directions:

  1.  
In a 1 gal plastic food bag place shrimp and olive oil, toss to coat, sprinkle enough rub to lightly coat the shrimp.
  1.  
The bag should look dark red.
  1.  
Refrigerate for 1-4 hrs, the longer you wait the hotter they'll be.
  1.  
Light the grill and while it's heating place shrimp on skewers.
  1.  
When coals are very hot, clean the area that the shrimp will be on and rub with a bit of canola oil on a rag (use a mitt please).
  1.  
Immediately place shrimp on greased grill for 2-3 minutes, turn and cook an additional 2-3 minutes.
  1.  
Remove from skewers and serve hot.
  1.  
No dipping sauce required. Serve with Hummingbird Ridge Semi-dry Riesling.
